SUMMARY:Artists Reception\, Joshua Horkey: Fight or Flight | BIG ARTS\, Sanibel
DESCRIPTION:BIG ARTS is pleased to announce a debut exhibition of painting and installation by local artist\, Joshua Horkey. \n \nPrior to his career as a fine artist\, Horkey was a successful designer and graphic artist in the apparel industry. Drawing from a great deal of experience in fashion\, photography and graphic design\, Horkey creates works that are reminiscent of Pop Art. In his first solo exhibition\, Horkey will be transforming the gallery\, incorporating works that utilize acrylic\, collage\, and mixed media\, often on reclaimed materials or found objects. \nProminent in his work are the multiple layers of imagery\, type\, and texture. Mainly\, with the use of references from popular culture like mass media imagery and its messages\, the themes involve introspection and the often-polarizing feelings it induces. Horkey strives to create something that causes a personal reaction – not art that’s simply wall décor. \nLEARN MORE\n \n   \nAdditional Information\nExhibition Dates: 04/02/2020 – 04/26/2020 \nArtists Reception: Saturday\, April 4th at 5:30 PM \nGallery Hours\nMonday through Friday 10am-4pm\nSunday 9am – 12pm \nLEARN MORE\n \n   \n\n \n   \n   \nDisclaimer: This information was deemed reliable (at time of publication) – but it is not guaranteed – hours of operation\, offerings\, availability\, prices\, details\, and etc. are subject to change or withdrawal at any time and for any reason. SUMMARY:Jory Lyle Band at Crow's Nest
DESCRIPTION:Join ‘Tween Waters at our Crow’s Nest Bar & Grille for food and drinks with live music by the Jory Lyle Band! \n \nListening to Jory Lyle is a little like listening to a classic\, 1970s folk-rock record. While he hasn’t been around quite that long\, Lyle’s music career does span more than 20 years. He has toured across the U.S. with several bands and experimented with various musical styles. A true ramblin’ man\, Lyle was raised in Minnesota\, went to college in Ohio\, lived in Southwest California\, relocated to Southwest Florida and is now happy to call Northeast Florida “home.” The only time he ever stopped making music was a five-year break to raise his child. He couldn’t stay away from music any longer\, however. Now he’s back. \n   \n\n\n\n\n\n   \n“I started playing covers just to get my chops back\, practice\, and to make money\,” Lyle told Folio Weekly. “The motivation [to get back into music] was that I can’t rest until these songs get recorded.” \nThey got recorded\, and the result is Lyle’s new EP\, Still Drunk from Breakfast. It’s an arch collection of down-on-your-luck\, even downright self-deprecating Americana tunes. Each four tracks are accompanied by individual lyric videos. Live favorite\, “I’m Out\,” boasts a wry promotional clip produced by Tyler Shore and directed\, Lyle says (wryly\, of course)\, by the universe. His car broke down during the production\, and he ran with it. \nLEARN MORE + SEE ADDITIONAL DATES/TIMES\n   \nAbout Crow’s Nest Bar and Grill\nGreat food. Great fun. Great times. There’s only one place on Captiva Island that combines all three — with a front-door view of spectacular Gulf of Mexico sunsets. That’s Crow’s Nest Beach Bar & Grille. \nAlmost every night of the week\, you can enjoy chef-inspired menu specials\, live music and — yes\, the you’ve-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it — Captiva Crab Races (in season). \n   \nDisclaimer: This information was deemed reliable (at time of publication) – but it is not guaranteed – hours of operation\, offerings\, availability\, prices\, details\, and etc. are subject to change or withdrawal at any time and for any reason. Like all the ensembles under the ChoralArt umbrella\, Camerata is dedicated to advancing the tradition of artistic excellence in choral singing. Their program will be listed on this site in the near future. \nAt 15 singers\, Camerata is the smallest of the three ChoralArt ensembles (which also include ChoralArt Masterworks\, a symphonic chorus of 100 voices\, and ChoralArt Singers\, a mixed chorus of about 45 voices.) \n   \n\n\n \n   \nThe Camerata principally performs a cappella repertory from the Renaissance and Modern eras with occasional forays into ethnic and folk music. Favorite composers include Ēriks Ešenvalds\, Morten Lauridsen\, James MacMillan\, Paul Mealor\, David Conte\, and Stephen Paulus. \nMusic Director Robert Russell came to Portland in 1979 as professor of music at the University of Southern Maine and music director of ChoralArt. He concluded a 36-year tenure at USM in 2015 and was named professor emeritus. His time in Portland has been rich\, the highlights many. \nChoralArt has presented numerous concerts with orchestra\, many under the auspices of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. The first Messiah performance in 1982 stunned us all\, as we filled City Hall Auditorium (Merrill’s predecessor) with patrons and glorious music. \nOther notable performances include Verdi’s Requiem\, Mahler’s Symphony No. 2\, Bach’s Mass in B Minor\, Bach’s Passion According to St. John\, Mendelssohn’s Elijah\, and the Brahms Requiem several times\, including a riveting performance in 1991 with distinguished guest conductor Robert Shaw. Several collaborative concerts with Portland Ballet\, including a dynamic Carmina Burana in 2003\, as well as concerts with Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ\, Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra\, USM Wind Ensemble\, Musica de Filia and many other regional organization stand out. \n   \nPurchase Tickets Now\nCLICK HERE TO PURCHASE TICKETS NOW\n   \n\n\n \n   \nDisclaimer: Information is harvested (at time of publication) from publicly available sources and is deemed reliable but not guaranteed – availability\, prices\, details\, and etc are subject to change or withdrawal at any time and for any reason. DESCRIPTION:Join Ogunquit artist and founder of Art HOPE\, Laura Jaquays\, for a morning of creative wellness at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. \nShe will be the hometown host for a tour of the art galleries and seaside sculpture gardens overlooking Narrow Cove. \nThe program invites participants to enjoy creative mindfulness\, observational drawing and writing\, and viewing one of Maine’s finest collections at the historic hub of Ogunquit’s art colony. \nWorkshop materials will be provided. We become curious about what inspired the artist and how they used their medium to make the artwork. A work of art\, rare or ordinary\, can be a portal for creative investigation when we are open to observing what we see\, what we imagine\, and what evolves in our internal and external observation. You may ask\, why did the artist make the artwork and what is it that attracts your attention? What story does it tell? What conversation comes alive in you? \nLEARN MORE\n   \nAbout Art HOPE\nArt HOPE is dedicated to promoting creative wellness through free expressive arts programs for people living with cancer or longterm illness and the community at large. \n   \n   \nOgunquit-Area Business Owners:\nWORK WITH US!
