Coastal Watch on Sanibel Island

Most of the residents on (and visitors to) Sanibel Island are environmentally conscious; and many of them are more than willing to help keep our Sanibel beaches clean!

Now, thanks to Coastal Watch, several of our Sanibel beaches have brand new Beach Bucket Stations that were installed so anyone who wants to take part in the effort to keep our Sanibel beaches clean actually has a convenient way to participate!

Additional information about Coastal Watch Beach Bucket Stations on Sanibel

Coastal Watch has partnered with the City of Sanibel and Bailey’s General Store to install Beach Bucket Stations at a few beach access points on Sanibel.

The objective of this project is to provide beach-goers with a vessel to collect trash as they enjoy our wonderful beaches. The fine people at Coastal Watch have noticed people walking the shoreline and stuffing trash into their pockets, tackle boxes, shell and bags — and they decided to take action to make a more convenient way for anyone who is interested to help collect debris and keep our Sanibel beaches clean.

WANT TO VOLUNTEER? Coastal Watch is still looking for volunteers to assist with this Beach Bucket Station project. The stations will be located at Lighthouse Beach, Tarpon Bay Access, and Bowman’s Beach – and they are looking for ‘volunteers that frequently visit these areas or live close by. Volunteers will need to check on the stations and make sure all buckets are accounted for and in good condition. If interested email coastalwatch@sccf.org.

About Coastal Watch

Coastal Watch is a group of Sanibel and Captiva community members who cherish the ocean, appreciate the rich history of our region, and are determined to conserve our oceans and estuaries for future generations.

Coastal Watch carries out locally-based conservation initiatives and programs to promote marine conservation. We recognize that marine conservation is a global need, but we focus our efforts locally. We support organizations at state and national levels, but our emphasis is to execute projects that enhance our immediate community and environment. Our hope is that by setting a strong, effective example, our actions will motivate others to engage in conservation in their own hometowns.

Coastal Watch is now part of the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Family.
